Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed optimism about an upcoming meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he welcomed India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to the Kremlin. Jaishankar’s two-day visit to Moscow comes amid discussions about enhancing bilateral relations. Putin conveyed his best regards to Modi and suggested that their next face-to-face could be facilitated by an event related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Furthermore, Putin is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.
During the meeting, Putin underscored the expanding trade between Russia and India, noting a particular increase in the supply of fertilizers to India from Russia. He emphasized Moscow’s commitment to further bolster these supplies, reflecting a deepening of economic ties between the two nations.
Earlier in his visit, Jaishankar engaged in dialogues with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, focusing on enhancing bilateral trade and economic partnerships. Manturov highlighted the potential for Russia to begin localizing nuclear fuel production in India, pointing to a significant area of potential collaboration.
Jaishankar’s itinerary in Moscow also includes discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. These talks are expected to cover a range of issues, including the strengthening of bilateral ties and a review of regional and global developments, underlining the strategic importance of the India-Russia relationship.
