The United States has proposed hosting Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations in Miami next week and established a June deadline for ending the conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed Saturday. The announcement indicates accelerated American efforts to mediate a settlement.

In statements to reporters publicized early Saturday, Zelensky disclosed that Washington’s proposal to host talks in Miami would be unprecedented in the nearly four-year conflict. This would mark the first time Ukrainian and Russian delegations have been invited to negotiate on American soil. According to Zelensky, US officials have communicated their intention “to do everything by June,” establishing a clear timeline for diplomatic efforts.

The upcoming Miami talks would represent the third round of US-brokered negotiations, following two sessions already conducted in Abu Dhabi starting in January. The Abu Dhabi meetings achieved a notable success with a major prisoner exchange but failed to make progress on the central territorial disputes. Russia maintains control over about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory and is demanding formal authority over additional land in the eastern Donetsk region.

Ukrainian authorities have categorically refused to accept territorial losses, arguing that doing so would violate sovereignty and legitimize military aggression. Moscow has characterized its territorial demands as fundamental and has warned of renewed military offensives if diplomatic channels fail to produce acceptable territorial concessions. This deadlock over borders continues to prevent substantive progress toward a comprehensive peace agreement.

Diplomatic developments continue amid ongoing military operations. Zelensky reported on Saturday that Russian forces had launched attacks against infrastructure critical to Ukraine’s nuclear power plant operations the night before. The strikes caused several nuclear reactor units to reduce their power generation, with one unit automatically shutting down. Zelensky condemned the attacks as unprecedented acts of terrorism and called on Russia to demonstrate genuine commitment to peace talks by ending strikes on vital civilian infrastructure.
